Stomach or Gastric cancer is the fifth most diagnosed cancer in the world. It is one of the deadliest cancers and has caused numerous deaths. The incidence is higher in males than females. Studies suggest that this is due to the absence of the female hormone, Estrogen in males, which protects against the disease. Various celebrities have lost their lives due to the disease.

Ken Watanabe

Ken Watanabe is known to many for his role in the movie ‘The Last Samurai’ and ‘The King and I’. Ken was diagnosed and treated for Leukemia twice in his life. He was later diagnosed with stomach cancer which was fortunately in its early stages and went under surgery for its treatment. The actor got nominated for Tony and Oscar awards.

Fred Rogers

Fred Rogers was an actor, producer, anchor, musician and puppeteer who is known to the world for ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’ show. He also received Presidential Medal for Freedom for his contribution for children’s television. The star was diagnosed with stomach cancer and died when he was 74 years old.

Liz Claiborne

The very known stylist of the fashion industry, Liz Claiborne, was famous for her style sense and designer skills. Her expertise in clothes was in designing formal attire for working women. The designer got popular among women for her chic yet formal looking inexpensive clothes. She was diagnosed with Peritoneal cancer and lost the battle against it at the age of 78.

John Wayne

The Academy award winner for the movie ‘True Grit’ was famous for his macho roles on television. The actor suffered from two types of cancers. He had been under treatment for his Lung cancer fr a long period of time. Stomach cancer took away his life at the age of 72 in the year 1979.

Ronnie James Dio

Ronnie was an American singer and a song writer. He was the lead vocalist of the Black Sabbath and had introduced the Sign of the Horns. He put foundation of heavy metal singing in the music industry which became quite popular afterwards. Dio was diagnosed with stomach cancer for which he was under treatment. He died in the year 2010

DeForest Kelley

DeForest Kelley was a poet, singer and an actor who was known for his popular roles in the ‘Star Trek’ series and the ‘U.S.S Enterprise’. However, his fan started to establish after one of his initial projects ‘Variety Girl’ got popular. De Forest got his name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution in television and films. Kelley was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer and died in the year 1999.

Michelle Thomas

The famous Justice Phillips of ‘The Cosby Show’ was an actress and a comedian. The character of Myra Monkhouse of the film, ’Family Matters’ also made her popular among the audience. Thomas suffered from a type of stomach cancer which was rare. She got under the knife for the tumor removal which later recurred. She died in the year 1998.

Peter O’Toole

Peter O’Toole was an exceptional actor who was famous for various roles.  The T. E Lawrence of the ‘The Lawrence of Arabia’ was awarded the Academy award eight times. The star also suffered from Stomach Cancer which got treated before recurring in 2012. He took retirement from his work and died in the year 2013.

James Baldwin

James Baldwin was an American playwright, novelist and an activist. Some of his famous works include ‘Notes of a Native Son’ and ‘Go Tell it on the Mountain’. Many of his writings were adopted and converted into films which were nominated or the Academy awards.  He was also a very influential supporter of the civil rights. Baldwin was diagnosed with Stomach cancer and he died in the year 1987.

Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon was the first Emperor of France. He was a successful military person and won many battles. He was also successful in expanding the French empire and the army enjoyed following his commands, as it led to victory. Napoleon suffered from Stomach cancer which was probably in his genes as his father was also reported to die from the same disease. He was exiled on the Island of Alba and died at the age of 51.

Gertrude Stein

The famous author of the books ‘Making of Americans’ and ‘The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas’ is known fro her immense contribution in English Literature. ‘The Making of Americans’ and ‘The tender Buttons’ are some of her most liked works of all times. Some of her writings have also been converted into music.  Gertrude had Stomach cancer and she died in the year 1946.

John Ford

John Ford received Academy Award six times and received the Medal of Freedom from the President. His work was versatile, and he directed around 140 movies in his 50 years long career. Many of the actors of that time have worked for him and found his work to be very influential. ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ and ‘Stagecoach’ are two of his Academy award winning movies. He was diagnosed with Gastric Cancer and died in the year 1973.

Enrico Fermi

The creator of the World’s first nuclear reactor was a physicist by profession. He is known to be an expert of theoretical and experimental physics. He was awarded with the Nobel Prize for his significant contribution in the world of Physics in the year 1938. Enrico suffered from Stomach Cancer and died in Chicago at the age of 53.

Gloria Grahame

Known for her characters in the movies ‘Oklahoma’ and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, Gloria Grahame started her career, working for MGM. She was diagnosed with breast cancer which remitted later. She ignored her health condition and continued working until she developed a complication for which she went under surgery. She was later diagnosed with Stomach Cancer and died at the age of 57.

Darlene Conley 

The famous Sally of ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ was an American actress. The character of Sally is placed in the Madame Tussauds museum for being one of its own. She played supporting roles in various movies like ‘Valley of the Dolls’ and ‘Lady Sings the Blues’. Conley was diagnosed with stomach Cancer for which she sought treatment. She died of the illness in the year 2007.

Anita B. Roberts

Anita B. Roberts is ranked amongst the top 50 Biological Scientists of the world. She is known for her work for the TGF Beta protein which is a key component for various vital biological processes. She worked as the Chief of the Institute at the National Cancer Institute. The lady was diagnosed with terminal stage stomach cancer and wrote about her experiences of the disease till her death in the year 2006.
